Celebrating a Safe and Memorable 4th of July
July 4th is a day that Americans express their devotion to the United States of America by celebrating Independence Day.
Independence Day is the birth of American independence and is celebrated across the country with parades, fireworks, and family.
It is a day to reflect and celebrate the blessing we experience in the United States. At V.W. Gould Agency, Inc. We are grateful for the men and women who have laid down their lives so Americans have the privilege to enjoy democracy and freedom in this country.
As a company committed to protecting Central Florida residents we want to share some tips for celebrating a safe and pleasurable 4th of July.
Fireworks on Independence Day
While firework vendors across the state of Florida sell a wide array of fire works it is important to know that there are only certain fireworks you can set off legally. These include:
- Smoke Devices
- Poppers
- Trick Matches
- Snakes
- Fountains
- Glow Worms
- Sparklers
Firework Safety
The 4th of July is a fun holiday, but it is also the holiday with the most fires. Fires produced on this day can be as small as a patch of grass all the way up to a burning neighborhood.
There are approximately $35,000 per year in fire damages from this holiday. These fires are the result of fireworks, and even decorations that are accompanied with fireworks. These fires can be costly to the government, insurance companies and the families who lose everything to them.
Using consumer fireworks is an Independence Day tradition and can be safe if a few common sense rules are followed
It is important that you and your family know the proper fire preparation tips. Especially your children. Here are some safety measures you can take to reduce your chance of fire.
- Have a fire extinguisher readily available
- Have water buckets and hose available
- It is important to keep alcohol away from children and animals
- When disposing 4th of July decorations it is important to be sure they are free of heat and flames
- When decorating the area in which you will be setting off fireworks it is important to be sure the decorations are a safe distance from the fireworks
- Stay away from illegal fireworks
It is important to have fun, but even more important to be safe. At V.W. Gould Agency, Inc. as an insurance company committed to protecting and serving Floridians we hope these tips help and wish you a Happy Independence Day!
